We also took into account Airports
but there weren't any clear rules on how far we were allowed to build near an
airport. In order to figure that out I sent an email to an FAA employee whose
job was an Air traffic Wind Turbine specialist for Kansas. Asking if she had
any ballpark rules for building a wind farm near airports. Her response was
that it doesn't have a overall rule and that it was a case by case basis in
which you can build. The FAA had some information on their website, about
ranges in which you must file a request for building over 300 feet. There must be a buffer of 20,000 feet
around runways which are 3,200 feet in length or more and a buffer of 10,000 feet
on runways 3,200 feet or less. We decided that the best course of action is to
make the area in a buffer a 0 value because it would require too much work or
resources to apply for areas within.
